This nuclear aspect of the book is terrifying, mainly because it is actually possible, and all it would take is for one crazy person with some power to press a button. Nuclear bombs are being dropped all over London, obliterating the entire city, and wiping out almost its entire population. The first chapter consists entirely of death and destruction, and it is so intense, it has you completely hooked from the very beginning, and you won’t be able to stop reading. Finally I had the chance to read it, and oh wow, it was worth the wait! It was actually my dad who recommended James Herbert to me, and I am so glad I finally picked up his books. I read The Rats and Lair (books one and two in the Rats series) back in 2019, and was planning to read Domain straight away, but review requests, blog tours, and arcs took priority, and it just kept being pushed back. I have been intending to read Domain for a long time. They know that Man is weakened, become frail. But below, the rats, demonic offspring of irradiated forebears, are waiting. For just a few, survival is possible only beneath the wrecked streets – if there is time to avoid the slow-descending poisonous ashes. The city torn apart, shattered, its people destroyed or mutilated beyond hope.
